In June 18 2024 I had a memorable encounter with a wild wolf, just kilometers away from home. Leaving home I drove some 10km into the woods on a gravel road.

My gear chosen this day was aimed at bird photography. 600mm lens with a aps c sensor camera for extra reach. I wanted to get some bird photos or possibly images of deer. After parking the car on the road side I hiked some 500 meters with my camera, lens and tripod and then I set up the gear by the road side with good views over a field of grass with some bushes and the odd birch tree.

After about 20 minutes or so suddenly a wild lone wolf emerged from behind and to the right of me. I could not believe my luck. It stepped up onto the gravel road about 50 meters from my position. After a short look at me it turned right and started walking along the road. A couple hundred meters away it stopped and looked around for maybe 20-30 seconds. I took this image at that moment.

Prior to this photo I had taken more of them but this is my favorite. Applied a Portra 160 Vivid color film-look to this image in post. Gear I used was Canon 80D with Ef 600mm f4L mkii lens.
